Senior citizens have many decisions that they and their families need to make when it comes to the senior staying in their homes and healthcare options. People want to be able to stay in their own homes and out of residential care facilities for as long as possible. There are several reasons for this. One is that no one really wants to have to leave their home and go live somewhere that will give them less control over their lives. Another is that people are generally more functional when they are in familiar settings. However, this can be very difficult for seniors and their families. The families may end up having to become caretakers. Being a caretaker is very stressful and can take up a large percentage of the caretaker's time. One way to make it easier on everyone is to use an in-home healthcare option.
Home Healthcare Options
There are a few options when it comes to healthcare options to come into someone's home. However, they boil down to two basic choices. One of them is medical care. The other is daily assistance.
Home healthcare agencies offer several medical options. It can be as simple as having a nurse come in once a week to make sure that the person's medications are all set up in a medication organizer. Those organizers are broken down by day and often have several compartments so that medications can be organized by time to be taken.
Medical care can also include having a nurse come in every day to administer IV medications or change dressings on wounds. Those things work best when they are handled by medical professionals.
There are things called activities of daily living. The ADLs include things like taking showers, getting dressed, going grocery shopping, cook, basically anything that a healthy person will do during the day. The person who comes in to give assistance isn't generally a registered nurse, but may be a certified nursing assistant. They may also be an aide that the home healthcare agency has hired specifically to go assist people with those daily tasks. The aide may come in daily and spend a few hours with the person to help set them up for their day, or they may come in a few days a week. There are several variables as to how often the aide will come in, including how able the senior is able to handle those ADLs.
Using home healthcare (such as offered by Always Dependable) can give people the option to stay in their homes for a longer time instead of having to go into a residential care facility.
I am one of those people who hates going to the doctor. In the past, I have relied on everything from cranberry juice to apple cider vinegar to fix my ails. As I get older though, I find that I need to rely more on traditional medicine than I did in the past. What I found out from my doctor is that I did not have to give up the holistic medicines I used. I could combine them. This blog is designed to help others focus on how to combing holistic treatments with traditional medicine in a safe and fun way.
