Three Natural Ingredients to Look for in Anti-Aging Creams

Denise Moore

If you want younger-looking skin, choosing the right product can be very difficult. There are hundreds of anti-aging creams in pharmacies and cosmetics stores; how do you know which is best for you? A good way to narrow down your choices is to decide which active ingredients are best suited to your needs, and then look for products with those ingredients. For many people, it's wise to go a more natural route and look for anti-aging creams with one or more of these ingredients.

Vitamin A

There are natural and non-natural sources of vitamin A, so read the labels carefully to ensure you're choosing a product with vitamin A that was derived from plant sources. Vitamin A helps fight aging in several ways. It stimulates blood flow to the surface of the skin, which boosts the production of collagen, the protein that gives your skin a taut, youthful appearance. It also helps protect the skin from the sun, a protection that reduces the damaging, aging effects of sun exposure.

Note that if you're not used to using vitamin A-based products, your skin may become a bit red and irritated the first few times you use one. Start by using the product every few days, and build up to once a day as your skin adapts.

Licorice Root

It's not just for candy! Licorice root has been used in Chinese medicine for years, and its anti-inflammatory properties have been studied by the mainstream medical community. It's these anti-inflammatory properties that make licorice root so effective at reducing redness and flushing. It also contains mild bleaching properties, which make it excellent for fighting age spots. Creams and serums made with licorice root will smell like licorice, so you may want to use them at night so they don't interfere with your perfume.

Pomegranate Seed Oil

Pomegranate seed oil offers many benefits that are helpful for aging skin. It helps stimulate regeneration of the cells in the epidermis (the skin's outer layer) leading to more youthful-looking skin. It also helps fight sagging and wrinkles, and its high antioxidant content may even be protective against cancer. Pomegranate seed oil is found in a some natural anti-aging creams but is not as popular as the other ingredients on this list, so you may have to visit a few stores before you find a product that contains it. However, if you want cancer protection and younger-looking skin in one, it's worth the effort.

About Me
Working Together: Holistic and Traditional Combinations That Work

I am one of those people who hates going to the doctor. In the past, I have relied on everything from cranberry juice to apple cider vinegar to fix my ails. As I get older though, I find that I need to rely more on traditional medicine than I did in the past. What I found out from my doctor is that I did not have to give up the holistic medicines I used. I could combine them. This blog is designed to help others focus on how to combing holistic treatments with traditional medicine in a safe and fun way.
