As a writer, having your fingers wrapped around a pen or pencil is just a natural part of life. Recording thoughts and prose is probably a never-ending thing, but what do you do when just writing words becomes a painful endeavor? Unfortunately, writer's cramp is no fictional thing and if you write a great deal there is a good chance you will face this painful condition at some point. When pain affects what you love to do, it is incredibly disheartening. Here is a quick look at a few ways you may be able to alleviate the pain associated with writer's cramp. 

Stop to stretch the muscles and joints in your hands and fingers often. 

When the mood to write hits, you may spend hours jotting away your thoughts and ideas in an almost feverish attempt to get everything down before you forget what you want to say. During these long stints of writing, it is an absolute must that you are stopping to stretch your hands and fingers so they do not tense up enough to encourage the inset of the muscle spasms associated with writer's cramp. Every few pages, take a break and do a few quick hand and finger exercises

Switch out your writing instruments regularly. 

If you are like a lot of writers who work with paper and pencil, there are certain writing instruments you prefer to use. While you may be drawn to using the same pen or the same type of pencil when you rite for long periods, it is actually better for your hands if you swap out utensils regularly. Writers cramps come from holding small muscle groups in the same tensed pattern for long periods. Just switching to a pen with a different thickness or slipping on a comfort grip changes the way your muscle groups react in your hands, which gives them a welcome break from the repeated actions.

In some cases, it will seem that no matter what home remedies or mechanical changes you make in how you write, the cramps will just not go away.
